Mike Veny considers himself a combination of a hard worker, limit pusher, and straight up trouble maker.
He believes that growth in any area of your life begins a willingness to be intentionally uncomfortable. In order to transform the stigma surrounding mental health, he says you must choose to get uncomfortable.
He believes that the stigma surrounding mental health is a repeating cycle: Stigma begins with shame. Shame leads to silence. Silence leads to socially isolating behavior, self harm, and suicide.
Mike also believes that we can transform this into strength: In order to transform shame, you must take care of yourself. In order to transform silence, you must to keep the subject of mental health in everyday conversation. In order to transform socially isolating behavior, suicide, and self harm, you must constantly look for teachable moments in life.

Help Your Kids Develop A Love Of Stories & Reading
“Bader Field, How My Family Survives Suicide” began as homage to Carl's father, Samuel David, the legendary art dealer in Philadelphia, who died suddenly & unexpectedly at the age of 58 while on a buying trip in England. This book started so that Carl's children, not yet born, would know the extraordinary greatness of their grandfather whom they would never otherwise know. But, as the years passed and the book evolved, its true perspective emerged.
After more than 25 years of Carl's personal struggle and torment, Bader Field would reveal the story of how his own American family lived through and fought to survive his brother's shocking death by suicide. In an instant, this one act shattered Carl's young life when he was just 16 and nearly destroyed his family. As a young man and as a brother, Carl battled through his own personal wasteland with one vision, but later, upon becoming a husband and father, he could only imagine the pain his parents had suffered.
Carl said: "I needed to reach out to those who are on the brink of killing themselves to show them there is always a better way. There is love, hope and help available. I want them to see how such a violent act not only ends the life of the victim, but also forever scars the lives of their families & friends. My mission is to bring to those who contemplate suicide an awareness about what a horrific tragedy it produces & to offer solace to all who have lost loved ones this way by showing how my family came to terms with my brother's taking his life. This is my way of 'paying it forward'.
