Joanie Connell is here to talk to us about being helicopter parents, or more to the point, about not being helicopter parents. She is the suthor of the book Flying Without a Helicopter. This book teaches readers what it takes to be successful in the workplace and how to get there. It is about parenting, educating, and managing to help young adults build skills to succeed in an increasingly competitive world.

It advises parents, educators, and managers, as well as young adults, on what is important to help produce healthy, independent, self-reliant employees who will thrive on their own. The advice in this book is based on decades of experience in working and consulting with employees, managers, and executives in the business world.

Joanie Connell’s expertise on what it takes to make it in the real world of work has been accumulated over 20 years of experience in the workplace and over a decade of research in academic literature and the media.

There, wild hogs, snakes, dirt roads and big trucks were the norm. Born into a family of musicians you can imagine how music was always playing in the house. Family and music are her everything. Again from early ages on she has continued to perform the National Anthem in front of large audiences at West Palm Beach Stadiums for the Marlins and Cardinals baseball and many other venues and functions. Mike Veny considers himself a combination of a hard worker, limit pusher, and straight up trouble maker.

He believes that growth in any area of your life begins a willingness to be intentionally uncomfortable. In order to transform the stigma surrounding mental health, he says you must choose to get uncomfortable.

He believes that the stigma surrounding mental health is a repeating cycle: Stigma begins with shame. Shame leads to silence. Silence leads to socially isolating behavior, self harm, and suicide.

Mike also believes that we can transform this into strength: In order to transform shame, you must take care of yourself. In order to transform silence, you must to keep the subject of mental health in everyday conversation. In order to transform socially isolating behavior, suicide, and self harm, you must constantly look for teachable moments in life.
